I've recently been away for a week with my friend's children church group as a helper (we call these groups "Jungschar", but there seems to be no translation for that). One of the activities for the kids was tie-dyeing. I really haven't seen that in ages and I wanted to join them, but unfortunately I had other duties. So I decided to do a shirt on my own.

materials

I bought one little bag of dark ultramarine blue (Marabu EasyColor Batik- und Färbefarbe Nr.055), which costed me about 2,50 € and was enough for 150 gramms of fabric. (For everybody else who doesn't know it yet: one t-shirt is about 100 gramms). The tee was an old one, that I already had at home.

spinned socks

Since I had 50 gramms of textile "left" and a pair of white socks, that I never wear, I experimented with spinning them and fixed the ends together with a piece of string.

dying

Instructions for dyeing were printed on the back of the package, so it was pretty easy and involved a lot of stirring. Afterwards you have to rinse the shirt until the water doesn't color anymore. This step took approximately forever.. I don't know how much water I wasted. But the result is very satisfying I'd say.

And the socks? Well, the result is quite artistic, but I'm not sure if I will wear them more often now then I did before ;).
